1. When submitting overseas documents to Korea (해외문서를 국내에 제출할 경우)

① Recently, two individuals, one German and one Belgian, requested certified translations of their parents death certificates and birth certificates to receive condolence money from the Private School Teachers' Pension after their parents passed away. In this case, according to Korea's Administrative Litigation Act, a Certified Public Translator can translate documents to submit to a Korean public institution with a certified translation certificate attached. Notarization is not required.

 

(얼마전 미국인과 영국인 두분이 부모상을 당하여 사학연금으로부터 조위금을 받기 위해 사망증명서와 출생증명서의 번역인증을 요청하셨습니다. 이 경우 한국의 행정사법에 의해 번역행정사가 번역후 번역확인증명서을 붙여 한국의 공공기관에 제출할 수 있습니다. 공증은 필요없습니다.)

 

② A month ago, one Nepalese and one Thai, requested certified translations of their birth certificates and marriage certificates to submit to the Korea Health Insurance Corporation to receive Korean health insurance benefits. This case is handled in the same manner as Case ① above.

 

(최근 네팔인과 태국인 두분이 한국 건강보험혜택을 받고자 한국건강보험공단에 제출할 출생증명서와 혼인증명서의 번역인증을 요청하였습니다. 이런 경우도 위 ①의 경우와 같이 처리됩니다.)

 

 

2. When signing and returning overseas documents (해외문서를 서명한 후 해외로 다시 돌려보낼 경우)

 

① Earlier this year, an American couple visited us, requesting notarization of a US Power of Attorney form signed to sell their real estate and vehicles. In this case, the original documents are required to be translated into Korean first (for filing at the notary office) and then they should visit a notary office affiliated with our translation office to sign and have the documents notarized. Upon request, we can direct you to the notary office.

 

(금년초 미국인 부부가 자신이 소유한 부동산과 차량을 매도하기 위해 미국 위임장을 양식에 서명하여 공증이 필요하다면서 방문하였습니다. 이를 경우 원문을 한국어로 번역(공증사무소에 보관용) 한 후 당 번역사무소와 연계된 공증사무소로 직접 출두하여 서명하여 공증인 공증을 받아야 합니다. 이 경우 요청하면 공증인 사무소로 안내해 드립니다.)

 

② Every year, Korean-Americans bring US government pension documents to prove their living status to continue receiving US pensions. They obtain the signature and stamp of this office (i.e., certification) of their living status and submit them to the US pension agency.

 

(매년 한국계 미국인 분이 미국의 연금을 지속 받기 위해 현재 생존해 있다는 것을 증명하기 위해 미국정부 연금서류를 가지고 오셔서 생존사실에 대한 당 번역행정사 겸 일반행정사의 서명과 날인을 받아(즉 인증)을 받아 미국 연금기관에 제출합니다.)

 

3. When translating Korean documents into English and submitting them overseas (한국서류를 영어로 번역, 해외 제출할 경우)

 

① A month ago, a British citizen residing in Korea requested a translation of a birth certificate issued by a Korean community center to register his daughter, born in Korea, with the British Embassy in Korea. In the cases like this, the British Embassy in Korea and other European countries accepts documents translated by a Korean Certified Public Translator with a Certificate of Translation and an Affidavit attached to the end.

 

(한달전 한국에 거주하고 있는 영국국적의 한 분이 한국에서 출생한 자신의 딸을 주한 영국대사관에 신고하기 위해 한국 주민센터에서 발행한 출생증명서류의 번역을 의뢰해왔습니다. 이 경우 주한 영국대사관이나 유럽각국은 한국내 국가공인 번역행정사가 번역후 번역확인증명서(Certificate of Translation)와 Affidavit(선서진술서)를 말미에 부착하면 접수합니다.)
